Adélie Trio

Edie Flunker is a dual-degree clarinetist in her second year at Oberlin College and Conservatory, where she studies Clarinet Performance with Richard Hawkins, as well as Philosophy, with plans to minor in Musicology and Recorder Performance. She is an active solo, chamber, and orchestral musician with a diverse range of musical pursuits and interests. A passionate chamber musician, Edie is a member of the Adélie Trio and has collaborated with numerous string quartets, woodwind ensembles, and clarinet choirs. She is an avid supporter of new music, having premiered works by Oberlin faculty and student composers, and she enjoys arranging works for various chamber ensembles. Edie has performed across the United States as well as internationally in Canada and Spain. Her festival appearances include Domaine Forget International Music Festival, Lawrence Chamber Music Festival, and Hidden Valley Chamber Music Festival, and she is a proud alumnus of Brevard’s and Interlochen’s High School summer orchestra programs. She is beyond grateful towards her current and previous mentors, including Richard Hawkins and Phillip Paglialonga. Hailing from the Chicago suburb of St. Charles, Derek Hibben is a second-year violist at Oberlin Conservatory, studying under the tutelage of Peter Slowik. In addition to his primary studies, he is pursuing minors in musicology and conducting. Also a composer and arranger, his compositions and arrangements have been performed nationwide, including Memories of My Great-Grandfather, premiered by the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Brass Choir in March of 2024. As a conductor, he is the co-artistic director of the Oberlin Camerata and is mentored by Chad Goodman. Gabriel Ackerman (2006*) is a pianist, organist, and composer originating from Auburn, Indiana. He is currently a second-year student at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, studying composition with Michael Frazier, and majoring in organ performance under the guidance of Dr. Jonathan Moyer. He is also pursuing an additional bachelor’s in German, with a special interest in translating the poetic works of Angelus Silelius. Gabriel began his musical career studying keyboard instruments at the age of 12, and has since developed a particular interest in the performance of early and contemporary music. He has participated in numerous study programs and masterclasses across the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has formerly studied piano with Dr. Jonathan Young of Purdue Fort Wayne and organ with Irene Ator.
