Alec Vanstraelen

Alec Vanstraelen, 16 years old, is an 11th-grade student at the Cité Scolaire Internationale of Lyon and a cello student at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional (CRR) of Lyon. He began studying the cello in 2019 and has since received continuous training at the CRR.

After completing both his First and Second Cycles unanimously with “Congratulations from the Jury,” Alec is currently enrolled in the pre-professional program (PPES2), studying with Frédéric Dutheil and Marie Ythier.

He has participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned cellists, including Marc Coppey, Jakob Spahn, Ophélie Gaillard, Yi-Bing Chu, Xavier Gagnepain, Philippe Bary, Emmanuelle Verger, and Eric-Maria Couturier.

In July 2023, Alec won First Prize at the Flame International Competition in Paris (category 10–13).
