Andrés Acosta – Trumpet

Colombian trumpeter Andrés Felipe Acosta Pulido is recognized for his versatility and expressive interpretation across both classical and popular music. He has served as principal trumpet with several leading ensembles, including the Cundinamarca Symphonic Band, the Nueva Filarmonía Orchestra, and the Film Music Orchestra (FILMO), and has collaborated as an extra player with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia.

Acosta has appeared as a soloist with numerous ensembles, such as the ASAB Symphonic Band and Orchestra, the Cundinamarca Youth Symphonic Band, and the Departmental Symphonic Band of Huila. In 2023, he won the ASAB internal soloist competition, was awarded the best instrumentalist prize in the festive music category at the Cundinamarca Departmental Band Festival, and performed as soloist and lecturer at the First Trumpet Seminar in Quito, Ecuador, presenting his talk “The Study of Trumpet in Latin America.”

He was also featured as trumpet soloist at the prestigious Teatro del Lago in Frutillar, Chile, performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 alongside the renowned Portuguese pianist Vasco Dantas.

A passionate educator, Acosta has taught trumpet and brass in several Colombian municipalities, including Fusagasugá, Chocontá, Subachoque, and Cota, contributing to the development of young wind players in the region.

His musical training includes studies in classical and popular trumpet performance at the District University Francisco José de Caldas – Faculty of Arts ASAB, and participation in the Symphonic Academy of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and IberAcademy. He has also taken part in numerous masterclasses with renowned artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Reinhold Friedrich, Eric Aubier, Sergei Nakariakov, Francisco “Pacho” Flores, Jens Lindemann, Bobby Shew, and Maite Hontelé, among others.

Acosta has been distinguished in both national and international competitions, including the Eric Aubier Latin American Trumpet Competition, the Cancún International Trumpet Competition, and the Samnium University Orchestral Excerpts Contest in Italy. His career reflects a deep commitment to Colombian music, academic excellence, and the promotion of brass performance in Latin America.
