Cristian Felipe Fernández Toro

The Chilean composer, singer, conductor, and researcher Cristian Fernández Toro obtained his License in Music and Composition, and his Master of Arts degree with a specialization in music creation (Composition) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2020-2021). He has studied under the guidance of Miguel Farías (Chile) and has furthered his education through workshops with Francesco Filidei (Switzerland), Oscar Bianchi (Italy), Richard Barrett (England), and others.

Cristian Fernández has received composition awards in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary, and his works have been performed throughout Latin America and Europe. He was awarded sponsorship from Amigos del Teatro Municipal de Santiago in the composition category.

As a singer, Cristian Fernández has trained as a tenor, participating in various projects spanning early music, contemporary music, concert music, and opera, both as a soloist and chorister. In Chile, he has performed with the Taktus Vocal Ensemble, Ensamble Nuevo Extremo, and Coro de la Compañía Lírica Disidente. He currently conducts the Gesture Ensamble Vocal de Solistas and the Compañía Ópera De Bolsillo, which performs contemporary chamber opera in non-conventional venues. He previously served as vocal coach and assistant conductor for the Student Choir of FOJI.

Cristian Fernández is a researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He conducts research projects in the fields of opera, contemporary music, Chilean music history, and vocal arts. He served as coordinator of the first Congress of Contemporary Latin American Opera. He has presented his research work at numerous congresses and institutions, including the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), Sociedad Chilena de Musicología, Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC), and others. He has also been invited as a professor to various Chilean institutions (including UACH, FOJI, and MINEDUC) to contribute to the development of conductors, singers, composers, and musicians.
