David Lee

At the age of 11 Korean American Cellist David Lee was selected for membership in the Daegu Genius Youth Orchestra and participated in its 2010 concert tour with performances at Philadephia’s Kimmel Center and in New York City at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. While He studying with Cellist Domzal Jaroslaw, John Koen, and Kyung-suk Park, David participated in numerous young artist music competitions, taking first prizes in the competition of the Gyeongbuk Arts High School, the Junior Cello Competition of the Music Association of Korea, and the Junior Competition of Eumak-Chunchu in Seoul. At the age of 16, Lee won first prize at the Taegu Broadcasting Corporation Concours, earning a performance with the Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra.

While he pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Oberlin Conservatory with Darrett Adkins, He took home both the gold prize and the Agnew Bach Prize from the 2019 Cleveland Cello Society Competition.

Also, David won the 2021 Oberlin Conservatory Concerto Competition and he Performed the Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante with the Oberlin Orchestra conducted by Raphael Jimenez.

After receiving the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard School and starting his Master's degree studying with Joel Krosnick, He won several competitions including the 16 LISMA Competition, New York International Young Musician Competition, Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition and American Virtuoso International Competition winter edition. Also, David won the Grand Prize at the Prodigy International Music Competition.

David had master classes with Andrei Ionită, Frans Helmerson, Khari Joyner, and Verona Quartet.

Beyond performing, David maintains a cello studio in New York City and he’s on the Faculty of Brooklyn Music School
