《Jiujiu Peaks》for Octet
Jiujiu Peaks is a landscape I repeatedly encountered while growing up in Nantou County, Taiwan. Due to its geology rich in laterite, the mountains appear flame-red at dawn and dusk, earning the area the name “Fire Mountains.” Under sunlight, this striking image became deeply imprinted in my memory and served as the starting point for this composition.
Musically, I employ a variety of metal percussion instruments to shape a surface texture reminiscent of sand and stone. Sustained tones, tremolos, and subtle variations in timbre and dynamics depict the layered and continuously undulating forms of the mountains. Through this work, I attempt to transform personal memory and lived experience of the landscape into a concrete sonic structure.
