Ilayda Uysal

Ilayda Uysal (b. 2000) is a Turkish composer currently pursuing her master's degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA). After beginning her studies at Ankara University State Conservatory, she first came to Amsterdam through the Erasmus program. She later continued her graduate studies there, further shaping her interdisciplinary approach to composition. During her studies in Ankara, several of her works were performed by fellow students in concert settings. Her solo flute piece “Bagatelle” was included in the repertoire of flute professor Dirk Boris Kestel, which was performed in Ankara and at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Additionally, her “Two Pieces for Piano” was performed by Mario Eritreo following a masterclass collaboration. Last year at CvA, her work “Ferry Story” was performed by fellow students, and her recompositions of Evelien van den Broek’s pieces were presented at the Muziekgebouw. Her most recent project is her musical interpretation of Emily Dickinson’s poem “I Felt a Funeral, in My Brain,” which was performed by CvA students on March 6 at Orgelpark as part of a CvA project. Ilayda draws inspiration from nature, philosophy, psychology, and other art forms.
