Jose Maria Herrera Rodriguez

Sensitivity, resilience, and versatility could define José Mª Herrera’s presence in the clarinet world, bringing with him a passion for communication and a strong stage presence.

With the clarinet, he has had the opportunity to perform in renowned venues such as the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz, and the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada. On a European level, he made his debut at the Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg.

As a soloist, he made his debut at the age of 18 with the Santa Ana Concert Band, later performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622 with the Al-Madain Chamber Orchestra. He is a regular collaborator with the Orquesta Bética de Cámara, under the direction of Michael Thomas, where he takes on various roles within the clarinet section.

He studied clarinet under Antonio Salguero, furthering his training through masterclasses with distinguished clarinetists such as Yehuda Gilad, Andreas Sundén, Pascal Moragues, and Florent Héau, among others. His constant curiosity has led him to explore the world of the bass clarinet, studying with Lara Díaz and Eduardo Raimundo.

Currently, he also works as a secondary education music teacher and is beginning to develop his skills as a conductor, having made his debut as assistant conductor in a performance at the Bienal de Flamenco alongside Rafaela Carrasco’s company, as well as in the concert band field.
