Jou-I Chen

Jou-I Chen (*2001, Taiwan) began playing the violin at the age of seven and received her first lessons from Chih-I Chiang, concertmaster of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra.

She studied violin at the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Prof. Annette Unger, completing her Bachelor’s degree in 2023 and her Master’s degree in 2025. Since 2025, she has continued her artistic postgraduate studies (Meisterklasse).

Jou-I Chen is a prizewinner of several international competitions, including a diploma and special prize at the International Szymon Goldberg Competition (2020), second prize at the Elite Musicians International Competition (chamber music, 2022), and a special prize at the International Queen Sophie Charlotte Competition (Pirastro Prize, 2024).

She has received significant scholarships, including the Deutschlandstipendium of the Hans Thomann Foundation (2022), the Carl Maria von Weber Scholarship (2026), and support from the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation (2026). In 2026, she was also selected to participate in the Malta Spring Festival – International Strings Academy.
