Kohei Owaki

I was born in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, in 1996. After graduating from the Department of Composition at Tokyo University of the Arts, I continued my studies there to complete a Master's degree. During my time as a student, I was also honored with the Hasegawa Yoshio Prize (Ecriture).

I've researched écriture and microtonality, and written pieces such as a 6-voice harmony, 11-voice strict counterpoint, "Impromptu" for 7EDO (equal division of octave) harp, and "Colored Sound Space" for 6 harps of 84EDO. I've also composed various non-contemporary style pieces like "Citrine", "Amethyst" and "Pure Quartz" for piano four hands, which are easy to listen to.

As my transcription works, I have published "Bach: Piano Transcriptions - Three Fugal Works for Different Instrumentations", and released the CD "Ysaÿe on Piano" (a piano solo arrangement of all of Ysaÿe's solo violin sonatas).

I currently work as a composer, arranger and music theory instructor, and am a part-time lecturer at Showa University of Music.
