Leah Alexandra Torres

Leah Torres is an operatic mezzo-soprano and a Southern California native. She earned a bachelor’s degree in both vocal performance as well as music education, along with a minor in German, from San Jose State University. Leah also earned her master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Miami. In 2022 Leah won first prize from the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation for the Eleanor Hale Wilson Scholarship.

This is Leah’s second year singing the role of Hänsel from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel with Miami’s Young Patronesses of the Opera’s outreach program. The traveling program reaches up to nearly 40 different schools in the Miami-Dade area January through March. In 2022, Leah sang the role of Mademoiselle Dombreuil, alongside artists Robynne Redmon and Kim Josephson, under the baton of Gerard Schwarz in the world premiere of Michael Dellaira’s opera The Leopard. This work has been released to streaming services in March, 2024 by NAXOS records, the world’s leading classical label. In 2023, Leah made her oratorio soloist debut at the Miami Oratorio Society’s 50th anniversary concert, appearing as the alto soloist in Händel’s Messiah. She is absolutely thrilled to be singing with Miami Oratorio Society again for their 2024 Easter concert.
