Maria Sá, born in December 2004, started her music studies at Academia de Música A Pauta in Porto – at the age of 4 following the Suzuki method. She started her studies with Professor Luís Norberto Silva and then with Joana Jesus and received her 1st prizes in Fátima National Contest (2012) and Capela Violin Contest (2014). Then she started studying with Professor José Paulo Jesus in 2014 and since then there have been several 1st prizes in national and international competitions: Vila Real in 2015, Porto and Vigo (Spain) in 2016, Vasco Barbosa Strings (Lisbon) in Pre-Juvenile category in 2017, Fundão in 2018, Vasco Barbosa in the Juvenile category in 2019 and, finally, the most prestigious contest in Portugal, Prémio Jovens Músicos, also in 2019. She added to these awards the Elisa de Sousa Pedroso trophy in 2015, the Carlos Fontes trophy in 2016 and in Germany (2020) the Bruno-Frey Pädagogischer Musikpreis Preis. She has done masterclasses with Boris Kuschnir, Benjamin Schmid, Gerardo Ribeiro, James Dalhgren, Joseph Swensen, Yuri Zhislin. She has played as a soloist with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Conservatory of Vigo, Camerata Atlântica, Centre Classic Orchestra and Gulbenkian Orchestra. Since November 2017 she is a member of the Portuguese Youth Orchestra and represents Portugal in the European Union Youth Orchestra since 2022. She is currently studying at Mozarteum University with Benjamin Schmid.
