Mark Andrist

Mark Andrist was coaxed into singing some countertenor pieces when he was working on his graduate degree in Louisville, Kentucky. The first version of "Songs of Innocence" evolved out of his discomfort with modern compositions written for countertenor. Years later, he felt compelled to revisit the work when he heard some of his young voice students muttering similar complaints. It's a Mozart-ian take on the familiar William Blake poems, playful and whimsical, with a spiritual undertone.
