Marten Meibaum

Born to a musical family in 1998, Marten took up the cello at the age of five. Following the graduation from Tallinn Music High School in spring 2017, he enrolled in the Royal Northern College of Music as a student of prof. Nicholas Jones. He was a member of Estonian National Opera symphony orchestra in 2019-2022 and is currently finishing his Master’s studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with prof Henry-David Varema. In 2015 he achieved a final round diploma at the Estonian string players competition, performing the cello concerto in A minor op 33 by Saint-Saëns with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. He has also played as a soloist with Tallinn Chamber orchestra and Tallinn Music High School SO. He has also won numerous prizes as a chamber musician both in Estonia and abroad. His most recent achievements include II prize for performing Glinka sextet with Tallinn Grand Sextet at the «Времен связующая нить» (“Time of common ground”) competition (2022). Marten also studies singing (Taavi Tampuu) and organ (Andres Uibo) and recently created the Cellaritone concept which connects cello playing and singing
