ALFA-BETH (A) (G) Alfa-Beth is an electroacoustic work for ensemble, electronics, and video art. The instrumental ensemble consists of flute, clarinet, violin, double bass, and piano. The work explores the properties of the first letters of the Greco-Latin alphabet, their iconographic origins, and the symbolic framework associated with them. The music of the letter A, for example, seeks to connect both with the power of its “fallen” image—that is, two inverted horns—and with the complex web of archetypal meanings they once represented. The letter G, on the other hand, embodies the idea of conception and the union of masculine and feminine energies.
