Paul Cartianu

Born in 1988 in Romania, Paul Coriolan Cartianu started his piano studies at the age of seven at the Music and Performing Arts District School. He later attended the “George Enescu” Music School in Bucharest, Romania, which he successfully graduated in 2007, while also studying with pianist Maria Demina in the US. Paul’s first success as a composer was wining the school composition competition when he was eleven. His enthusiasm for composition as a child led him to taking theory lessons at the Colburn School of Music with Warren Spaeth and studying privately harmony and counterpoint with Valentin Petculescu. Paul’s pieces have been performed at ceremonies and in University class concerts. While in his first year of piano performance at the Thornton School of Music, he took composition classes with Brian Shepherd.
