Ugnė Katinskaitė

BACKGROUND: Ugnė Katinskaitė was born on 14 June 2003 in Vilnius, in the family of musicians. She graduated National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art in prof. Rusnė Mataitytė‘s class and also she used to be a student of prof. Pavel Berman at Accademia Perosi in Italy since 2016. She is currently studying with prof. Pavel Vernikov at Musik und Kunst Privatuniversitaet Der Stadt Wien. Since 2014 she was under the patronage of Mstislav Rostropovich, the charity and support foundation „Aid for talented children of Lithuania“. Ugnė plays on a violin, given for her by this found.

COMPETITIONS: Even though Ugne is a young musician, she is already a winner of many international and national contests: B. Dvarionas Piano and Violinists Competition (2012, 2014, 2016), J. Urba National Strings Competition (2011, 2013), International S. Sondeckis Competition (2013, 2017). In 2017, Ugnė participated in three competitions where she became a prize – winner of special prizes: in R. Katilius Young Violinist Competition Ugne was the youngest participant of all time (13 years old) and she won the second prize. Two years later (2019) she became an absolute winner of the same contest. In the prestigious international Andrea Postacchini’s Violin Competition in Italy (jury chairman Boris Kuschnir) she won the 4th prize and a special scholarship prize. In 2019 Ugnė participated at internation 61st J. Kocian Violin Competition and she became a winner of the 1st prize and a special prize for best interpretation of a piece by J. Kocian. Later during this year she won a 1st prize at international Competition of Young Musicians Kaunas Sonorum. Also she was awarded with a special prize for a high quality of mastery, that was specially established for her by jury chairman Marta Abraham. On 2021 she became a laureate of International Rudolph Barshai String Competition.

CONCERTS/PERFORMANCES: Ugnė has performed with various Lithuanian and foreign orchestras and string quartets such as Lithuanian National Symphony Orthestra (conductor Modestas Pitrėnas), Lithuanian Chamber Orthestra (artistic director and conductor Sergej Krylov), Kaunas City Symphony Orthestra, National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts Symphony Orchestra (conductor Martynas Staškus), Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Musica Humana (conductor prof. A. Vizgirda), Duisburg Philharmonic String Quartets and Kaliningrad Philharmonic Chamber Orthestra. She actively performs in various pretigious halls abroad (Italy, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Austria (Vienna, Musikverein) etc). Her performances were broadcasted by Lithuanian National TV. In 2023 the jubilee concert "Disputas su Orkestru" took place at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Mstislav Rostropovich charity and support fund in Lithuania, in which Ugnė performed with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robertas Šervenikas. The concert was broadcast live by Lithuanian national television.

FESTIVALS: In 2019 Ugne was invited to take part in an International music festival "Young Talents of Europe", where she represented Lithuania.The concerts were organized by Lithuanian and Polish Embassies, in Brussels, Belgium. In August of year 2024 Ugne took part in 60th Sion Festival, in Switzerland.

CHAMBER MUSIC: In 2023, November 10th, in the Lublin Philharmonic (Poland), Ugnė represented the Vienna University of Music and Arts, performing a J. Brahms Clarinet Quintet. The concert was dedicated to the celebration of Poland's Independence Day. In June of 2023, Ugnė held a recital in Vienna with a Japanese piano partner Akihiro Sano. One year later they had another duo recital in Bösendorfer Salon, Vienna.
