Biography – Veronica Chuni Feng

Hello! My name is Veronica Feng, and I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, in a deeply musical family. I have a younger brother who plays the oboe, and together we study music at the conservatorium on weekends. My mother plays guitar, violin, piano, and drums. My dad? He's a fantastic audience member and occasionally joins in on triangle—though not always on beat. Lol. Our home has always been filled with music: marimba, drum kit, flute, guitar, violin, oboe, and pianos echo through our everyday life. Every Christmas, we celebrate our growth with a family concert, a tradition that’s close to my heart.

I’ve been playing the flute for six years, continually refining my technique, broadening my repertoire, and deepening my musical expression. This dedication has led to meaningful achievements: earning an A+ in AMEB exams up to the AMusA level, winning first place in both the NSW Flute Eisteddfod and the Sydney Eisteddfod, and receiving top honours in several international competitions—which have taken me to perform in Belgium and Paris. I’ve also been a two-time finalist in my school’s Concerto Competition.

In addition to solo work, I am a committed ensemble musician. As a music scholar, I rehearse weekly with my school’s Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony, as well as the Northern Sydney Youth Orchestra. On weekends, I continue my studies at the Sydney Conservatorium, where I attend music theory lectures and play in a woodwind quartet. These ensemble experiences have taught me the art of collaboration—how to listen, respond, and blend technical precision with expressive storytelling.

Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue music overseas after the HSC, studying and collaborating with world-class musicians, and sharing my passion on a broader stage. Competitions like this are invaluable in helping me grow under pressure, receive expert feedback, and evolve as both a soloist and ensemble performer. I see this event as an inspiring space to push my boundaries and connect with talented musicians from around the globe.

Outside of music, I love reading, philosophy, and debating—I’m an active member of my school’s ISDA debating team. I also enjoy netball, tennis, ice-skating, badminton, gymnastics, and ballet. At home, I spend time with my three cats—Moony, Fluffy, and Cookie. They’re my best friends. Academically, I’ve consistently ranked in the top 10 of my cohort from Year 7 to Year 9, and I’ve earned strong results in competitions like the Math Olympiad, Science, English Writing, and Ethics.

I’m thrilled to apply for this competition. It represents an incredible opportunity to challenge myself, refine my artistry, and immerse myself in a vibrant, international community of musicians. I truly look forward to the experience!
