Yat Ling Sophia Chan

Sophia began learning the piano at the age of six whilst living in Hong Kong. Since moving to the UK in 2021, Sophia has continued her piano studies with Dr David Onac and latterly Mr Benny Hui at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music. Recent achievements include being awarded Winner in the Scherzo category of the ‘London International Chopin Competition’ and a 4th Prize in the ‘London Classical Music Competition’. She has also participated in several other competitions including the ‘European Piano Teacher Association Piano Competition’. Sophia is a sixth-form student at Manchester High School for Girls, where she is the recipient of a music scholarship, and next year she will perform a concerto movement with their orchestra. In the future Sophia intends to continue her piano studies at conservatoire level. In her spare time Sophia enjoys composing and exploring new repertoire.
