Yuri Mashin
Yuri Mashin is a Russian conductor, composer, and teacher, winner of international competitions and the Shostakovich Prize of the Russian Union of Composers. He graduated from the Rostov State Rachmaninoff Conservatory with degrees in conducting and composition. Mashin gained his conducting experience as a conductor at the Rostov Musical Theater, where he conducted operas by Rossini, Mozart, Verdi, and Bizet. A key milestone in his career was his work with the Rostov Chamber Orchestra of Contemporary Music "Orbita." The orchestra's repertoire is based on rarely performed works by 20th-century composers such as Charles Ives, Krzysztof Penderecki, Arvo Pärt, Giya Kancheli, Roman Ledenev, and many others. Mashin also devotes considerable attention to his work with the conservatory's student orchestras. The most significant project of recent years is a concert production of Verdi's opera "Aida" by conservatory students.
